…no holiday, this… it is just that, the shoe, sort of is on the other foot…
The Independent, certainly not of the mold of the corporate US MSM, has a laugh at itself, and a jeer at the sanctimoniousness of the US media. The ‘third world’, and worse, has been present for decades in the US, it is just that ignoring its existence would make it ‘go away’ – until the ‘thugs’, the ‘savages’,. the ‘Apaches leave the reservation’, that is. Yes, aside the drivel of ‘post-racial’, ‘post-partisan’, the US is in a severe state of deinial, just one big, happy, racist, exceptionalist country, if not racist, elitist and confused. A fact that no ‘USA! USA! USA!’ can dispel. Read the rest of this entry »
…no more lucid corroboration of widespread suspicions…
As we know, Professor Black, economist and lawyer, at that time knew what to do, how to do it. And then did it. That ‘it’ was identifying and prosecuting those responsible for criminal misbehaviour in a financial scandal, the S&L scandal, in the US of the late 80s and early 90s, with successful felony convictions. Despite more egregious behaviour that would lead to the collapse of many economies in 2008, no such ‘it’ would, to date, be undertaken in the very US from which major financial misbehaviour originated – the era of the corporate political party in full bloom.
Now on to our story, and well told it is. The likes of Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, Brazil, and Argentina, countries in which the process of democracy remains more legitimate than that found to the ‘north’, especially the US. To hear the US MSM tell the story in their advocacy of the corporate dictates of the incumbent régime du jour, the reverse is true – those countries that fail to surrender their respective independence, and resources not even for a song, must be dictatorships, and the country, where corporate power rules, is the paragon of democracy and liberty. Prof Black takes serious umbrage, and his rebuttal is as comprehensive as it is utterly devastating. The New York Times Claims Democratic Leaders in Latin America are “Military Dictators”. We yield the floor to the good Professor with his superb exposition, Read the rest of this entry »
…truth, lack of truth, and consequences…
Clearly, it was again premature to declare, ‘Mission Accomplished’ for that lot in the ‘Kill the Messenger’ project. That thing about the past appearing, and suddenly, all too suddenly.
The release of the movie, ‘Kill the Messenger’, instead of eliciting ‘mea culpas’ from the complicit MSM, seems to have had the opposite effect, further attacks on the messenger, Gary Webb, who had committed suicide. Unfortunately facts tend to have an inconvenient way of not disappearing from public view, despite the MSM’s best efforts.
For the MSM: Ignoring Narco-trafficking Contras even in the US, the Price of US Freedom?
The economist, Dean Baker, in his post, In Context of Accusations of CIA Drug Smuggling, WaPo Calls $10 Million a Week “Relatively Small”, of 19 Oct affirms the delinquency of the protagonists, here WaPo, then dissects the economics of the assertion made by WaPo’s Jeff Leen, Read the rest of this entry »
The WaPo and the NYT, paragons of US news, are at it again. There was the dutiful reporting of a tragedy at Fort Hood, where a troubled (why?) father and husband killed and injured several, then to take his own life. This tragic figure, even
if not serving in Iraq without service in Iraq, is a victim of the lies that saw the senseless slaughter of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and thousands of US soldiers, and more. Predictably, there would be the same media casting about to find something derogatory about the man.
Not only that, ironically the same week would see WaPo extolling the virtues of the ‘warrior heroes’ of the US misadventures, bromides, flattering consolation to the duped – unnecessary for those senior officials and corporations enriched from their profitable ventures. …as if it couldn’t get worse for the continuing decline in the already battered reputation of the corporate US MSM…
Ever alert, Dean Baker over at beat the press gives a witty but trenchant ‘correction’ to economic analysis from the ‘Grey Lady’, 1.5 Million Fracking Jobs? Is Legalized Marijuana Affecting the NYT. One key observation, Read the rest of this entry »
