…whew! so, west baltimore is finally gone, ‘disappeared’ from the impatient US MSM, back to its invisibility. even if of stark poverty, destitution and hopelessness…
The corporate US media has finally regained control over the ‘message’ (sorry, world!), and the US President is at last sole voice of the ‘truth’. With the avalanche of presidential pronouncements, the reality of Baltimore will be promptly lost on a still significant number of incurious USans, as rhetoric rules the day.
We now move forward, as we mention two major accomplishments of the US President for a hard pressed citizenry. His laser focus on jobs, and his forceful initiative to address the widening gap in inequality in the US, the ‘defining challenge of our time’.
Well, before moving forward, a brief digression. Which raises the doubt, ‘Surely, somebody must be wrong on this’. Courtesy RT, we have this observation,
Nevertheless, Democrats continued to criticize the president over the TPP, as well as another trade deal being negotiated with the European Union, the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership.
“I think if you could get my colleagues to be honest, on the Democratic side, with you ‒ and I think you can mostly ‒ they will say they’ve been talked to, approached, lobbied and maybe cajoled by more cabinet members on this issue than any issue since Barack Obama’s been president,” Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) told the Huffington Post. “That’s just sad,”
Brown said the administration should be spending more time pushing a higher minimum wage, strengthening regulations on Wall Street and expanding Medicare.
…Baltimore: abandon hope, all ye who enter?…
Not as perplexing? The likelihood is very low, to zero, zilch, that all who join the police force in the US (and even elsewhere) are predisposed to psychopathic, sociopathic or violent behaviour so often evident. It is likely that some very small percent may display any of those characteristics. Thus, what would account for the near total unleashing of confrontation, violence rather than restraint, patience, or persuasion?
A case in point. RT reports on the pepper spraying and initially violent arrest of an unarmed protester who walks up to a line of officers at the start of the curfew, and invites their reaction. The video demonstrates their reaction, Baltimore protester wearing ‘F**k the police T-shirt’ gets face full of pepper spray (VIDEO).
Police officers sprayed pepper at him at a near point-blank range. The man was then pulled to the ground by the hair and dragged away by three law enforcers. The man didn’t appear to be resisting the police.
…no holiday, this… it is just that, the shoe, sort of is on the other foot…
The Independent, certainly not of the mold of the corporate US MSM, has a laugh at itself, and a jeer at the sanctimoniousness of the US media. The ‘third world’, and worse, has been present for decades in the US, it is just that ignoring its existence would make it ‘go away’ – until the ‘thugs’, the ‘savages’,. the ‘Apaches leave the reservation’, that is. Yes, aside the drivel of ‘post-racial’, ‘post-partisan’, the US is in a severe state of deinial, just one big, happy, racist, exceptionalist country, if not racist, elitist and confused. A fact that no ‘USA! USA! USA!’ can dispel. Read the rest of this entry »
…’peau noire, masques blancs’, or whatever that means…
Not too many have forgotten that panicked, summary ‘firing’, apt euphemism, of Shirley Sherrod. And, an indignity inflicted without even offering Ms Sherrod the courtesy of ‘her side of the story’ – and it would turn out shortly afterwards that even those who had turned on Ms Sherrod had attended the very function at which she had given her speech, which had been subsequently manipulated for political advantage. Nor have too many forgotten that discourteous, unbecoming belittling of the late Helen Thomas, who in her questioning would be among the first public figures to show that there was not much ‘there’, there.
Even before then was this little item. The US MSM would be on a rampage to tar and feather one who had had the temerity, the impudence, the treachery to criticise the greatest, most humanitarian, most exceptional, most indispensable country on the planet. An example from that ABC, famous for its ‘World News Tonight’ of which some 95% is about the US, More From Obama’s Pastor: U.S. a Racist Superpower. And it comes from Maddy Sauer and Rehab el-Buri on 18Mar2008. Telling snippets, Read the rest of this entry »
