…poverty, alms for arms, ‘free trade’? and other tithings of great joy…Posted: 2015-05-18
…some poor we never will have with us…
So many of the inner cities, and elsewhere, of the US feel they are exceptional in their poverty and hopeless existence. Little do they know how others around them are suffering – such is the elitist exceptionalism of poverty.
Beyond the borders of the US, this has long been known, so no announcement was necessary. But we still let The Guardian reinforce that observation, Hillary Clinton memoir: we ‘were broke’ after presidency. Maestro, Please. Plaintive notes from the violin,
Hillary Clinton’s family was “dead broke” and saddled with legal bills when she and her husband, Bill, left the White House, the former first lady has revealed.
“We came out of the White House not only dead broke, but in debt,” Clinton told ABC News at the start of a tour to promote her memoir, Hard Choices, which is released on Tuesday. “We had no money when we got there and we struggled to piece together the resources for mortgages, for houses, for Chelsea’s education. You know, it was not easy.”
And, as evidence that the US is truly the land of opportunity, this impecunious family had to lift itself out of dire poverty, and by its own bootstraps – no SNAP, no Medicaid, no reliance on food kitchens. And into awe-inspiring reality would turn this aspiration to achieve the ‘American (US, really) Dream’ – Yes, they can! And yes, they did. No need for all that selfish counter-productive rioting just to appear on TV.
Even that infamous RT would have to acknowledge the exceptionalism of the US as The Land of Opportunity (copyright protected?), Clintons reportedly earned close to $30 million over 16 months,
Bill and Hillary Clinton earned roughly $30 million since January 2014, mostly from giving speeches on the lecture circuit to corporations, banks and other organizations, according to disclosures filed with federal elections officials.
Imagine the struggles: Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds. Or was that the US Postal Service? They all do so look alike.
So, through a looking glass? No, Glass-Steagall. But – After Nafta.
Which brings us to the Grand Bazaar, where bargains are made, arms are sold, even alms donated, as common dreams informs us. U.S. Hosts Arms Bazaar at White House Arab Summit. No shooting hoops this event.
The six members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) – Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, UAE and Saudi Arabia – which participated in the summit were, not surprisingly, promised more weapons, increased military training and a pledge to defend them against missile strikes, maritime threats and cyberattacks from Iran.
An equally important reason for beefing up security in the region is to thwart any attacks on GCC countries by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
[Iran, still? IS? TBA? Interminable tomfoolery?]
After this will flow, will gush lavish tithings of great joy for the especial non-GCC country and its most needy entrepreneurs. And ensuring that giant first and permanent step out of Presidential impecuniousness will be the rewards of any successful ‘free trade’ initiative and, of course, that splendid inaction on financial shenanigans.
…yet another us family lifted out of poverty…ode to joy!…
