…from the halls of montezuma, to the great wall of china?…

…things continue to fall apart for Bold Barry and his Band of Bumblers…

Only last week the US President Obama would declare Venezuela ‘an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security of the United States’ (seriously!), thereby earning the enduring derision of the world. (Of course, there is a history to the foolishness.)

Moreover as the ridicule gains intensity, would come worse news, its most obedient ally, and with David Cameron of all PMs, would join the Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), a China initiative fiercely opposed by the US. To make matters even worse, further news would come that Germany, France and Italy are set to join. At naked capitalism blog the embarrassment is examined.

And that amateurish attempt to isolate China with the proposed corporate TPP, well, we will see…

On the subject of that Venezuela, as ‘threat’ thing? Well, UNASUR held its meeting in Quito, Ecuador on Saturday, 14 March, and, well, no need to guess the outcome. Fidel Castro would subsequently offer his own support for the Venezuelan President. Other support, from countries and groups, would continue to flood in – even the tiny, tiny, tiny St Lucia would be unambiguous on the matter. As if the total disorientation, confusion and impeccable lack of timing, among other things, could not be worse, in Caracas on Tuesday, 17 March, there is a meeting of ALBA-TCP in preparation for the Summit of the Americas to be held in Panama in early April of this year. And at that meeting, which promises to be exciting, the US President is expected to show up, to show up, with his band of experts, in the face of the adverse consequences of misadventures in the region on the whole, in Venezuela, Argentina, and Brazil in particular.

Clearly, for the US this, horribile dictu, is annus horribilis that promises to only get worse. And the increasing irrelevance of the traditional corporate MSM ensures that such a stark reality is no longer concealed from world view.

…and, not to forget, syria, libya, yemen, ukraine, all in deadly chaos because of compulsive hubristic, imperial overreach, the permanent legacy of a country led by self-absorbed personalities seemingly inured to violence and destabilisation…
