…1914, fall of eagles; 2014, fall of eagle?…Posted: 2014-09-30
…the bbc may well have a starring part in this update to its earlier documentary…
Since many revel in hysteria. Yazidis on a mountain! Thousands! Millions! Tens of millions! Genocide awaits! The ‘humanitarian’ US must act now! Oh, that was the rationale for bombing Iraq once again, where a ruthless IS band is still on a rampage against very expensively trained soldiers who just scamper off at the mere mention of the name ‘IS’. As sudden as their appearance, the Yazidis have vanished from the MSM headlines as the urge for Perpetual War is being sated from that successful deception. And, yes, in Iraq that very IS group had been lopping heads off, as just one of its many other life ending atrocities. [And that head lopping off business has also been going on in, say, Mexico?]
So onto Syria, not to Iraq whose Prime Minister had relinquished his British citizenship only shortly before his inauguration as PM. It is in Syria, where IS, formerly known as ISIS or ISIL, would choose to insult and threaten, of all countries, the exceptionalist US and its Western allies of fallen empires. But, before getting to those threats, a digression.
A New Number One in Town
Suddenly arises a group so dangerous, so deadly that few even dared to think of, not to mention, utter its name. And that group is based where? Syria. Indeed, if you believe the US and its colluding MSM, you know immediately that IS was suddenly more like a bunch of well-behaved choir boys compared with that ‘unmentionable’ band of Evil Incarnate. Glenn Greenwald in his post, Anatomy of a Fake Terror Threat To Justify Bombing Syria, would observe,
As the Intercept was finalizing this article, former terrorism federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy wrote in National Review that the group was a scam: “You haven’t heard of the Khorosan Group because there isn’t one. It is a name the administration came up with, calculating that Khorosan … had sufficient connection to jihadist lore that no one would call the president on it.”
[bold added for emphasis]
[Khorosan Group, LLC, PLC or Inc?]
That the US and Western citizenry could be yet again contented victim of this hoax suggests something or the other. So we have a phantom enemy suddenly made real through corporate media corroboration of utter fiction. Phantasmagoric stuff.
Appointment in Samarra? Or Syria?
Nothing like destiny. Now back to the second place ‘bad guys’ group, which had lead the charts for several weeks. And,those threats to the US from IS? One from one of its intrepid warriors, to fly their flag over the Official Residence of the US President, as well as that of the respective western allies, with no mention of having the obligatory official dog for the photo-op. What audacity of hope!
And to show their seriousness of purpose, in Syria, seemingly, the IS gang murder, behead three, two US and one British – while the Saudis do the same beheading (as well as some limb separations), not televised because of low ratings there (?). Those beheadings would be the last straw for the US, the call to arms to defend the fatherland, the motherland or the homeland, which ever evokes another era of troubled empire. So the bombs would fly, and fly they did for freedom and and fast food franchises. And who better than the BBC, still nostalgic for empire, to inform us of the impressive successes of this US-led ‘strategy’, US air strikes in Syria ‘destroy IS tanks’. With no trace of embarrassment, the ‘Beeb’ informs us,
US-led air strikes on Islamic State (IS) militants have destroyed four tanks and damaged another during a fourth night of bombardments in Syria.
The Pentagon said it also carried out seven strikes on IS positions in Iraq, including one on the outskirts of the capital, Baghdad.
So, then, the total cost of destroying and damaging these (how many?) tanks, which were not bought by the group? Undaunted, the BBC would also inform us, US-led air strikes hit IS on Syria’s border with Turkey. Couple nuggets,
US-led coalition air strikes have hit Islamic State (IS) targets near the besieged Syrian town of Kobane on the border with Turkey, the Pentagon says.
An IS building and two “armed vehicles” were destroyed at the Kobane border crossing, US Central Command announced.
What massive destruction! What a resounding success! That should be teach those miscreants not to mess with the US. US weapons destroyed by US weapons? Of course, IS will be ‘conceded’ replacement weapons the US provides its proxy ‘freedom fighters’ – you get the picture.
Fool them once, twice, again and again, and again?
How goes the game of deceiving a stubbornly credulous US public? Another example. The AP reports, US-led airstrikes hit 4 Syrian provinces. And we are informed,
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said coalition forces hit Islamic State group facilities overnight in Aleppo, Raqqa, Hassakeh and Deir el-Zour provinces. It said there were casualties, including civilians, but did not have exact figures.
One and only one ‘boots-on-the-ground’ (via Coventry, England) news source. And the bona fides of this source with such an impressive sounding name, this source so extensively quoted by the corporate MSM? We yield to WikiPedia, Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Here we see wildest imagination is insufficient to conceive of this,
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) founded in May 2006 is an information office opposed to the Government of Syria. Rami Abdulrahman’s UK based SOHR has been cited by virtually every western news outlet since the beginning of the uprising. After the start of coalition airstrikes against ISIL/ISIS in September 2014 SOHR is frequently quoted by major newsmedia, such as Voice of America, Reuters, BBC, CNN and National Public Radio about daily numbers of ISIL/ISIS fighters and civilians killed in airstrikes in Syria.
Talk about singing from the same ‘hymn’ sheet. So then, aside much more valid reasons, such a model, ‘Syria Observatory’, for news gathering, vetting and reporting should argue against the usefulness or continuing existence of the MSM?
Is IS (formerly known as ISIL or ISIL) the witting (or unwitting) accomplice in the strategy of that US group of War (politician, military, corporation) One-percenters? After all, we have this from the mother jones news blog, $26 Billion in US Aid Later, the Iraqi Military Is a Total Disaster. Couple observations that will be lost on the usual obdurate folk,
As US bombs rain down on ISIS targets in Iraq and Syria, analysts agree that this war will ultimately be won on the ground. Too bad the Iraqi defense forces are a shambles.
Total cost of rebuilding, training, supplying the Iraqi military, police, and justice system: Around $26 billion
Meanwhile, the estimated cost of the new war in Iraq? Around $15-$20 billion.
Are those numbers really in the billions? But no expense is too great to preserve and protect freedom and democracy in the fatherland, as observed by Dan Froomkin at the intercept news blog, DEFENSE CONTRACTORS ARE MAKING A KILLING. One observation on staving off that ruthless band,
Now, with U.S. forces literally blowing through tens of millions of dollars of munitions a day, the industry is not just counting on vast spending to replenish inventory, but hoping for a new era of reliance on supremely expensive military hardware.
Fall of the Eagle, Hapless, Clueless but ever Resolute?
Confident, assertive, abrasive, then what? Death and destruction for the non-cooperative? Especially those Middle-Easterners? The ‘character profile’ of those Middle-East allies is the verdict. Saudi Arabia? Egypt? That is policy? Or as Eric Margolis would observe in his article, As Bad As a Crime, a Blunder. Couple observations. The first identifies the cluelessness yet arrogance of US ‘policy’,
Having nearly provoked war over Ukraine with nuclear-armed Russia, the Obama administration has now launched a full-scale crusade in Iraq and Syria against the evil Saracens of ISIS.
And, as a reminder of that Lady Viagra of Libya fame for whom failure ensures continuing success, we have,
The real problem is that the White House’s strategy looks like it’s being run by two angry women, Susan Rice and UN ambassador Samantha Power. Neither they nor President Barack Obama seems to have any grasp of military or geopolitical strategy. It’s amateur hour driven by a frenzy of alarmist hysteria from politicians and the media.
If we recall that the US and its allies had invaded and destroyed a secular Iraq, and would then go on to destroy and sunder a secular Libya, and are in the process of doing the same to Syria, we have a familiar loud voice on Iraq reminding the world, if not BBC listeners, ‘You killed a million people in Iraq’ George Galloway tells Blair Cabinet Member. And one thing about that politician, unlike most US politicians, substance trumps their predictable ‘sound bite’ insubstantiality.
And, yes, still no one has been called to book for such death and destruction, not to mention the profiteering at the expense of countries that were considered, ironically, ‘the cradle of civilisation’. A consequence of ‘The Great War, ‘a new world order’ carved out of the Ottoman Empire by rampant Imperial Western powers, the very area to which the Imperial US Eagle and its allies have landed, lured back into a blinding and bewildering sandstorm by an extremist group that tellingly calls itself the Islamic Caliphate. That rendezvous with destiny, unnecessarily hastened by US ‘policy makers’.
…Then again, this recording of history may well be undertaken by social media, with the BBC by then relegated mercifully only to game shows and travelogues – from 2 to 4 am?…
